Frequently Asked Questions
1. When do practices start?
It depends. For the most accurate information, you'll need to check the page for the specific team you're interested in.
Most of our programs will begin the calendar year with winter training sessions in either January or February to prepare for their Spring seasons, which begin in March. This includes indoor clinics for Rookie Rugby (grades K-5) and middle school. Our Men's and high school programs will have indoor practices at the Hall of Fame Fitness Center on weekends and additional practices at a gym during the week.
The Summer Rugby 7s practices begin in early June for middle school, high school, and the Men's teams.
Only the Men's team currently participates in a Fall Rugby season. Practices for them usually begin in mid-August.
2. When is practice?
For the most part, training sessions are held for each of our teams every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The location is dependent upon which team you're interested in, and is listed on each team's page.
3. What equipment do I need?
Rugby requires very minimal equipment. Typically you'll need a mouth guard and rugby (or soccer) cleats. These can all be purchased online or at a sporting goods store such as Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods. We highly recommend you also purchase rugby specific shorts as they are made to endure the game. The club will supply jerseys for their respective matches.
4. How much experience do I need?
Not much. Your coaches and teammates will go out of their way to teach you the skills you need to play the game. After participating in controlled practices, you will be eased into action at a pace you are comfortable with.
5. Are there coaches?
Yes, the Canton RFC has USA Rugby Certified Coaches for each of their teams to closely monitor your progress, create practice sessions, and help you to reach your goals.
6. Will I make any friends with Canton RFC?
Rugby is truly a fraternity. You will make friends who you will cherish for the rest of your life. It is a proven fact that when you need a helping hand, you can count on your mates!
